Journal Entry on Worshiping Joyfully
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!

Often times during worship there is a sense of holding back for many reasons. New song, different leader on stage, we brought a guest and don’t want to make them uncomfortable. These are external reasons. These are things that are seen by others but they come from inside our heart. The internal reasons often are rooted in sin, insecurity, pride, jealousy, etc . . .
If we come to worship with these things in our heart we will not truly experience the grace of God, the freedom in the presence of His Spirit at work among the believers. We often think that worship is for us, a time for us to do something. Worship is for God, the end . . . It is a time for Him to be adored, praised for his good works on our behalf, and of utmost importance our SALVATION.
Below is an excerpt from the Daniel Fast Devotional reading our church has been reading through. It says best what our response should be. How we should align ourselves to truly worship God joyfully without reservation:
“God’s goodness and grace should motivate us to freely express our love and allegiance to Him with shouts of joy. This may mean that those who are more reserved must push back the boundaries of restraint and learn what it means to be expressive in their praise to God. Those who are so expressive that they miss the beauty of silence may need to learn from those whose style is more reflective.
Worship is a time to focus on our Creator, Redeemer, and Shepherd, and celebrate what He has done.”

This Sunday night our church has an opportunity to celebrate the last two weeks of great things our God has done. In our prayer times today ask the Lord to revel His goodness to you. Ask Him to remind you of the things He has done this last two weeks.
Maybe it is a renewed sense of your salvation in Christ, maybe it is a reminder of your purpose in this life, maybe it was conviction of sin that needed to be confessed and repented of, maybe it was a call to a particular service area or ministry at church. Whatever it is, know this, God is worthy of praise for everything He does in our life, from discipline to showers of blessings. He is worthy of praise for it all.
– Lord, today may we be reminded of your greatness in the big and small and know that you are to be praised through it all. You are worthy of our most exuberant praise. You are worthy of our most radical worship. Will you teach us to be true worshippers without regard to external influence, but with complete regard to an internal reverence and passion for your name.
